Remove Ads by "Eko"
The ByteFence Anti-Malware research team has determined that Eko is a web browser ad-injector that installs as a browser extension in Chrome or an add-on/plugin in Firefox, IE and other browsers. Eko injects ads into others' sites, without permission from those sites and without payment to those sites. The presence of this adware clearly worsen your web browsing experience by displaying more ads, slowing page-loads, and sharing information about your browsing patterns and thus infringing on your privacy. In addition to replacing ads with their own and taking money away from search engines, the Eko adware will also pop-up with even more questionable offers, such as a request to install an "update" for Adobe Flash.
One of the biggest questions we get about Eko (besides how to get rid of it), is how did Eko get installed in the first place? One way we've noticed is via another piece of potentially unwanted software: software bundlers. These programs install adware alongside programs you can get for free. The producers of the software bundlers pay for ads to appear when you search for certain software. These ads lead you to download a software bundler, which may not even install the actual software that you searched for, but you still get the adware Eko.
For prevention, download your software from the official site. Read what the site says, and the screens that the installer shows you. Don't be fooled by downloading packages that promise to install the software you want, in addition to a whole bunch of other software that you don't need. And most importantly, keep your security software up to date.
